The Genova - Bartolomeo Figari Refuge
The Genova-Figari refuge stands between two lakes, Brocan, a natural alpine lake and the Chiotàs reservoir, one of the largest in Europe. The refuge was donated to the Genova branch of CAI, the alpine club, by the electricity board ENEL in 1981. It replaces the old refuge, now at the bottom of the reservoir. It brings together the splendid natural surroundings with an amazing feat of civil engineering. The access is easy, surrounded by meadows and the two lakes, it overlooks the walls below the peaks of Argentera which at 3,300 m. is the highest point in the massif. Here you can spot many species of animal, ibex, chamois, marmots, ermine, eagles and rare plant species such as the Old King saxifrage among others.
On the ground floor of the refuge is a bar and dining area where you can try traditional piedmontese food. One of the most popular dishes is polenta with a wide variety of sauces. On the first floor, two, three and four bedded rooms. On the second floor, comfortable dorms. There are bathrooms on the first two floors and outside, showers are on the ground floor and outside.
Hikers, climbers and families can relax and have fun climbing on the training crag or the bolted routes close to the refuge, or cross over to other refuges or try the traditional routes of various levels on the walls around the refuge.
